LGBT HERO is developing a video to address suicide in the LGBTQ+ community and to improve the support networks of LGBTQ+ people.

We need people with lived experience of suicide (if you have tried to take your own life or have/had suicidal thoughts) to appear in the short video and provide feedback on the scriptIt’s important to us that the project is created by voices that have lived experience, so the awareness campaign is authentic, effective and has the potential to change lives.

Suicide is an issue with which many of us in the LGBTQ+ community have lived experience and as a community we are at least five times more likely to attempt suicide than those who identify as cisgender heterosexual. It’s an issue that isn’t really talked about in our community. There's still a great sense of shame and stigma associated with suicide and this is leading to the issue not being addressed.

That's why LGBT HERO is developing a new suicide prevention campaign video for LGBTQ+ people, which we hope will start important conversations around suicide in our community.
