Meet the LGBT HERO team

LGBT HERO currently has four full time staff member and two freelance support workers. LGBT HERO's staff work in partnership with over 100 volunteers and stakeholders who help us produce our projects, programmes and services.

Meet the team:


Ian Howley | Chief Executive

Ian is the Chief Executive Officer for LGBT HERO. Ian joined LGBT HERO in 2010 as the Associate Editor for FS magazine when he moved over from Ireland. He took over as Editor in 2011, while taking on the position of Online Communications Manager for LGBT HERO. In 2016, Ian was appointed CEO. Ian's background is in mental health, suicide prevention and youth issues. He has two degrees in Health Promotion and Graphic Design allowing him to bring both practical and creative thinking in delivering all of LGBT HERO's services. Ian strongly feels that no LGBTQ+ person should have to face health and social inequalities for simply being who they are. 


Liam Murphy | Digital and Social Engagement Manager

Liam is the Digital and Social Engagement Manager for LGBT HERO since 2014. Liam is the engine behind LGBT HERO's health and social  campaigns. He is currently the editor for FS magazine. Liam also oversees LGBT HERO's public fundraising events such as the RVT Sports Day and World AIDS Day. Liam is passionate about working in partnership with the people who want to make a difference in our communities. What drives Liam is making sure all of LGBT HERO's campaigns and programmes are developed by and for the people they serve. 


Justin Mahboubian-Jones | Community Engagement Manager

Justin joined LGBT HERO in 2017 as our Digital and Social Engagement Officer, he was tasked with searching through the deep files of the internet and talking to those in-the-known to help create FindOut. Justin also helped set up OutLife and built its content, campaigns and audience. In 2021, Justin became LGBT HERO's Community Engagement Manager and is responsible for bringing LGBTQ+ people into the organisation through our Action Panels to help steer our health and wellbeing projects for LGBTQ+ people, including driving the OutLife programme for young LGBTQ+ people and building on the FindOut service finder. 


River Solace | Trans Wellbeing and Community Support Worker

River is non-binary and autistic. Their lived experience with gender identity and mental health provides them with a breadth of knowledge and understanding to help those who need it, and for LGBT HERO in particular, trans and non-binary communities through creating support groups, developing insightful advice and information online, and helping service users on the forums. They believe kindness and compassion are key when it comes to supporting the community. Outside of work, their creative pursuits include songwriting, photography, modelling and public speaking.


Noemi Guzman | Intern

Noemi joined LGBT HERO as an intern in the spring of 2022. She is responsible for creating fact sheets on topics ranging from bisexuality to how LGBTQ+ people and feminists can work together. Noemi is passionate about writing and stopping the spread of misinformation to vulnerable peoples. What motivates Noemi is passionate about helping educate those willing to learn! 


Navi Singh | Intern

Navi joined the LGBT HERO team through the Arcadia program. As an intern, he produces fact sheets, insightful opinion-based articles, and responds to our users on the forums. Navi is from Michigan, USA and is currently studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland; he will be with LGBT Hero until early May. While in Dublin, Navi is looking forward to explore the ins and outs of Dublin life.
