Unfortunately, due to the global pandemic, LGBT HERO has had to cancel this year’s Sports Day. As you know, Sports Day is a big day for us. Not only do we get to put on the best sporting event of the year we also raise lots of money from it. £12,000 to be exact. That money goes towards building our mental wellbeing services through GMFA and OutLife. So postponing Sports Day is not something we take lightly.

However, we have good news! We are bringing our most popular event, the freestyle dance routine, online for a one-off fundraising competition.

We want you to put together and record a short dance routine with a song of your choice. You can do it solo, with a small group of friends or with a few people from your team/home/club/work place.

Your recorded routines will be broadcast on our social media (Twitter, Facebook and YouTube) and the viewing public will be encouraged to vote for their favourite dance. Each entry will be given their own text-to-donate voting number and the entry with the most votes (and therefore raising the most money) wins!

The rules:

  • You can perform solo or have a team of no more than 5 members

  • You must register your team indicating the number of people taking part by emailing

  • You must remain socially distant. If you enter a team, the routine must obey the social distance guidelines of two metres apart, do be aware of this when choreographing a routine. If it’s filmed indoors, please wear masks.

  • If you want to enter a team but can’t meet in person, then you could do it over Zoom (for example) and record it that way.

  • The routine must be no longer than 2 minutes.

  • The routine must be recorded and sent to us in a video format by 19/08/2020

  • Once you have submitted your video, you will be assigned a text-to-donate number which acts as your vote number. Each text donation of £1 counts as one vote.

  • LGBT HERO will broadcast the routines the week starting 24/08/2020 (tbc) alongside each text-to-donate voting number and they will remain up until the end of the Bank Holiday weekend.

  • Each entry can post the video on their own social media and campaign for votes.

  • After the competition has ended, LGBT HERO will count the votes and announce the winner during the first week of September.

  • The winner will receive a Socially Distant Dance-Off trophy.
