RVT Sports Day 2019 | And the winners are...

Updated: Aug 28, 2019

Yesterday, 26 August 2019, was the hottest Sports Day ever, topping at 34º in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, but it did not stop nearly 2000 people attending on the day to cheer on the 11 teams fighting for the crown.

Before we announce the winners...

We're still counting every penny and our teams are still collecting money but we can safely say we have raised over £10,000 - beating last years collective total. This is wonderful news and it will go a long way to support our unfunded work. This year we are putting this money towards supporting LGBTQ+ people who are affected by mental illness and suicide. We as a community are up to five times more likely to be affected by mental illness and up to seven times more likely to die by suicide. This is unacceptable to us at LGBT HERO so we are going to do something about it. This is why every penny raised for RVT Sports Day is important. Thank you to all our teams and everyone who donated.

If you missed out on Sports Day but would still like to contribute, you can do so by donating here: www.lgbthero.org.uk/donate or you can text 247HERO to 70085 for a one-off £5 donation. You can also donate via PayPal, www.paypal.me/lgbthero. Or you can support one of the 11 teams who competed in this years event: www.lgbthero.org.uk/sportsday.

Now let's get on to the winners...

First up: Best Dressed

There could only be one winner this year and it was the amazing Natalie Cassidy inspired 'Just Doing This Now' from the London Titans.

Top Fundraisers:

This year, at the cut off point at 5pm, there was only £6.50 between first and second place. In the end 'Will You Be There Darling' came out on top with raising over £1100. But a big shout out to The Gay Men's Dance Company who raised over £1100 too and just missed out on the top spot at the cut off time. You're all superstars!

And now the overall event winners.

After competing in seven events which includes the Patato and spoon race, the 50m mince, Tug of War and the Drag Relay, topped off with the ever popular Rhythmic Gymnastics we had our winners...

In 3rd place with 7 points:

Just Doing This Now

In second place with 9 points:

LYC Badminton

And the winners with 10 points:

Above The Stag

A huge congratulations to Above the Stag who were crowned RVT Sports Day 2019 winners.

And a huge congrats also goes out to all our teams. You were all wonderful and we couldn't have done this without you. We hope to see you all return next year for RVT Sports Day 2020!

We'd also like to thank our hostess with the mostess, Timberlina who has hosted Sports Day for the 19635628376 consecutive time. You killed it in the flower gown! A big thank you to Nick Health and Bob Ballard for commentating and keeping the crowds entertained. And we'd also like to thank our special guest referee or as we called her, Referetta, Ryan T Atkin. You looked splendid, darling! Chris Jepson for the wonderful photos, which you can see more of here. And of course the RVT for helping us put on this wonderful show. It's been 13 great years and we hope to continue this wonderful partnership.

And finally, we'd like to thank all of LGBT HERO's staff and volunteers who put this show together. It's a lot of work for a small team and we heavily rely on our volunteers to pull this together. We also couldn't have done this without out.

Thank for supporting us at RVT Sports Day 2019, we hope to see you in 2020!

Keep donating!
